Senior Paralegal (Data Privacy Focus)

 

 

Background

"Guidance, Solutions, Integrity" describes the Legal Team's approach to providing responsive legal guidance supporting the implementation of the foundation's strategies. The Legal Team offers creative solutions that accomplish programmatic objectives, develops and implements efficient legal processes to streamline the foundation’s grantmaking and contracting practices, and applies preventive legal strategies and compliance policies to minimize risks and safeguard the foundation’s reputation.

 

Role Summary

The Senior Paralegal will utilize professional and technical expertise to support a wide range of legal activities in the form of research, reviewing and drafting agreements, facilitating business transactions, and assisting with compliance management related to data privacy and other cross-foundation legal matters. This role will provide creative input and solutions to support the development and implementation of efficient legal processes and the work performed will be under the supervision of an attorney.

Core Responsibilities

  • Actively participating in the foundation’s privacy compliance program
  • Collaborating with members of the Legal Team, outside counsel, foundation staff, and third parties on other compliance matters (e.g., tax, advocacy, IP, and corporate governance)
  • Performing complex legal research and analysis
  • Advising on compliance with various state and national privacy and consumer protection laws
  • Reviewing and negotiating various transactions, including grants, contracts, MOUs, NDAs, and data sharing agreements
  • Reviewing and drafting terms of use and privacy notices
  • Reviewing and drafting policies, guidance, and procedures
  • Developing and delivering effective guidance and training to individuals at all levels
  • Other responsibilities and projects as assigned

 

Core Knowledge and Skills

  • BA/BS degree and a paralegal certificate
  • Minimum of 6 years of firm or in-house legal team experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of data privacy experience
  • CIPP certification highly valued
  • Project or program management and/or process improvement experience highly valued
  • Intellectual property (e.g., due diligence, licensing, tech transfer) experience highly valued
  • Corporate transactional support and/or litigation support experience highly valued
  • Online legal research tools, Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), MS SharePoint, and MS Teams
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Creative problem solving and ability to juggle changing and competing priorities and demands
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, resourceful, and flexible
  • Optimism, patience, and good humor
  • A passion for the mission of the foundation

 

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 6+ years of experience, or equivalent experience.

 

*Applicants currently residing in the greater Seattle area strongly preferred.
